Cemeteries of Groveland

 

 

Colonial Cemetery (1777) - located on School Street, across from the Elmer S. Bagnall Elementary School.  There are only 7 people buried in the cemetery.  All of them died of smallpox.   "In Memory of Those Who Died of Small Pox 1777. Jeremiah Hardy June 29; Mary [illegible], wife of Dea. Timothy Hardy June 21; Abner and Elizabeth, son and dau. of Jeremiah Hardy, June 22; William Greenough, Esq. June 23; Dr. John Tenney June 24; Dea. Timothy Hardy June 27; David Marden June 28; Erected by the Town of Groveland 1896."

 

Riverview Cemetery (1727) - located on Main Street (Route 113).  Transcriptions of the headstones in this cemetery have been published by Louis A. Woodbury's Inscriptions from the Old Cemetery in Groveland, Mass., (Groveland, Mass.:  L.A. Woodbury, 1895).  Available at New England Historic Genealogical Society, call no. F74/G95/W66/1895.**
